GRUVER - Debbie Chisum, 57, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Lieb Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Debbie was born March 19, 1952, in Borger to Veda and Reta Chisum. She attended Pringle School and later Gruver schools, where she graduated in 1970. She attended Texas Tech University, played basketball for the Lady Raiders and was trainer for the women's volleyball team. She earned a bachelor's degree in health, physical education and history. She coached in Phillips, Wellington and at Frank Phillips College until becoming disabled with a back injury.
She then spent her years helping kids through Little Dribblers youth basketball, All-Stars, AAU and basketball camps. She dedicated her life to teaching kids the basics of basketball and life also. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. Debbie leaves many friends and several ex-players that she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Janice.
Survivors include a sister, Teresa Chisum of Aledo; two nephews, Jeremy Bratcher and wife Sarah of Granbury and Jason Bratcher of Kentucky; three great-nephews, Ashton, Kaleb and Joshua Bratcher of Granbury; and two great-nieces, Emily and Shelly Klein of Granbury.
The family suggests memorials be to Kids, Inc., 2201 E. 27th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79103.
