John Pershing Brooks, 68, of 121 Pecan in Borger died at 2:34 p.m., Wednesday, at Golden Plains Community Hospital.

A retired welder at the Phillips refinery, he was a native of Fordyce, Ark. and a Borger resident for 43 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fairlanes Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; a brother, Thomas Brooks of Fritch; sisters Cathleen York of Oxnard, Calif., Vera Simpson of Uvi City, Calif., Hattie Raeavis of Porterville, Calif., Dorothy Lee of Harlingen, Texas, Ophelia Darden of Athens, Texas, Virgie Brooks of Athens, Texas, and Louise Standridge of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Browns Chapel of the Fountains with the Rev. W.R. Lawrence and the Rev. Haskell Wilson officiating.

Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Ed Brown and Sons Funeral Home.

BORGER - Ellen E. Brooks, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors, Minton Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Chad Chaddick, pastor of Fairlanes Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Beatitudes at Westlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Brooks was a waitress at the Borger Hotel. She was a member of Fairlanes Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Jerry Hill of Odessa.
