Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 in Slaton's Hearts Together Church of Christ, with burial in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Mr. Martin died on July 29, 2010. Martin was born on April 25, 1923 in Tatum, N.M., but grew up in Slaton. He married Norma Faye Owens on Sept. 24, 1943. He was a naval veteran of WWII. Shortly after his return from the military, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and retired after 37 years. Buford served as a union representative for the United Transportation Union for more than 25 years.
He was a member of Hearts Together Church of Christ (formerly Westside Church of Christ). He previously was a member of Slaton Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Slaton Senior Citizens Center, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Retired Railroaders Association and Masonic Lodge.
He was predeceased by his son, Owen Ray Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Faye; daughters, Janet Martin of Slaton and Angela Edwards of McKinney; sons, Alan of Slaton, Leland of Denton, Tony of Brownfield and Jeffrey of Amarillo; brother, Everett of Killeen; sister, LeaEtta Youngblood of Hobbs; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Norma Faye Martin, 86, of Slaton died in her home on Tuesday. Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, in Hearts Together Church of Christ of Slaton, Texas. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of England's Funeral Service of Slaton.
A lifelong resident of Slaton, Mrs. Martin was born in Slaton on April 17, 1927. She attended school in Slaton and married Buford C. Martin in Slaton on Sept. 24, 1943.
She is survived by six children, Janet Martin and Alan Martin, both of Slaton, Leland Martin of Denton, Tony Martin of Mineola, Angela Edwards of McKenney and Jeffrey Martin of Waco; a sister, Wanda Cutter of San Angelo; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
