WHEELER, March 5 (Special) - G.W. (Green) Porter, pioneer ranchman in this section of the Panhandle, died at his home here this afternoon.
His death was attributed to heart attack. He had been in failing health several months but had been critically ill only a week or ten days.
Mr. Porter, who was 80 years old, had been a resident of Wheeler County the last 39 years.
He came here from Mangum, Okla., as a young man and acquired his original farm home 8 1/2 miles southwest of Wheeler and became owner of several hundred acres of ranch and farm land.
He retired from active ranching about 20 years ago and moved to Wheeler to live.
Mr. Porter was a charter member and a director of the Citizens State Bank of Wheeler and retired as a director only two years ago but retained his interest in the bank.
He was a brother of J.M. (Jim) Porter, who died here about two years ago.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Wheeler Baptist Church, with Rev. Murray Fuquay, the pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the Wheeler cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cordie Porter; and three sons, Nelson Porter, Wetumka, Okla., and George and Dennis Porter, of Wheeler.
