HEREFORD — Jewel Blankenship, 97, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011.
Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Central Church of Christ with Jared Blankenship and Jason Blankenship, grandsons, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery under the direction of Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Blankenship was born August 21, 1913, in Justin to Lee and Beulah Brown Brooks. She married M.W. "Webb" Blankenship on October 8, 1938, in Denton. Jewel was co-owner of Simms Grocery and Farm Supply and was a member of Adrian Church of Christ and Simms Study Club.
Mrs. Blankenship was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four brothers, Homer Brooks, Robert Lee Brooks, James Brooks and Bill Brooks.
Survivors include two sons, Morris Blankenship and wife Sondra and Sidney Blankenship, both of Hereford; one brother, Joe Brooks of San Antonio; one sister-in-law, Mary Lyle Brooks of Ponder; four grandchildren, Jared Blankenship and wife Sheri of Hereford, Jenna Howard and husband Mark of Fort Worth, Jason Blankenship and wife Kristen of Throckmorton and Jenise Lawhorn of San Antonio; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be to the High Plains Childrens Home, 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79118; or Camp Blue Haven, HC 81, Box 304, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
