Funeral services for Ray Porter, 90, of Andrews will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 2, 2001 at the Andrews Church Of Christ with Mark Wilson of Andrews Church Of Christ and John Snider of Greenwood Church Of Christ officiating. Burial will be in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home of Andrews. He died Friday, June 29, 2001 at his residence in Andrews.
He was born February 4, 1911 in Checotah, Oklahoma. He married Tiny Louise Cheatham on January 26, 1933 in Cole Pool, Oklahoma. He owned and operated his first grocery store in Cole Pool, Oklahoma. They moved to the Andrews County in 1945. He had owned and operated Modern Food in Frankel City, Texas and Andrews, Texas. Tiny preceded him in death on January 26, 1971. He married Margaret Owens Sears on September 9, 1971 in Andrews. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Andrews Church Of Christ. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Jessica Ray Jones in 1973.
He is survived by his Wife: Margaret Porter of Andrews; 3 Sons: Mickey Porter of Hereford, David Porter of Artesia, New Mexico, and Denny Porter of Andrews; 1 Daughter: Billie Jones of Andrews; 3 Stepsons: Owen Sears of Lubbock, Joel Sears of Houston, and Robert Sears of Andrews; 1 Sister: Elsa Lee Hunwardsen of Merced, California; 10 Grandchildren, 9 Step Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 3 Step Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild. Memorials may be sent to the Lubbock Christian Children's Home or your favorite hospice group.
