Services for Thomas D. Gomez, 88, of Lamesa will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Martin Pina officiating.
Burial will be in Lamesa Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home Inc.
He died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at his home.
He was born Dec. 11, 1911, in Taylor. He married Leonardaz Zapata on Oct. 23, 1942, in San Saba. He was the founder of the first Lamesa credit union in Dawson County. He helped guild the first Catholic church in Dawson County. He was a Democratic chairman of the American Legion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 40 years. He was a World War II veteran. He was the chairman of the American GI forum. He was a retired automotive mechanic and he owned and operated Gomez Laundromat. He established the Catholic Food Bank and was a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rosa Linda of Lamesa; three brothers, Isabel of Delen, Mike of Carmen, Calif., and Pete of New Mexico; and two grandchildren.

Funeral mass for Leonor Zapata Gomez, 97, of Lamesa, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church with Father Joseph Kurumbel officiating.
Burial will follow in Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
Rosary was to be held on Saturday and Sunday evenings, at 7 o'clock, at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Gomez died on Friday, May 6, 2011 in Lamesa.
She was born on Nov. 6, 1913 in Castroville, Texas to Juanita (Navarro) and Francisco Zapata. She married Tomas D. Gomez on Oct. 23, 1937 in Brady, Texas.
She was a dedicated member of the Catholic Church. She helped form the first Catholic Church in Lamesa – Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission. She was a member of the Guadalupanas, Cursillista, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Tomas D. Gomez; her parents; and brothers, Guadalupe Zapata, Francisco Zapata and Catarino Zapata.
Survivors include her daughter, Rosalinda Gomez of Lamesa; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Paula Rodriguez of San Saba.
The family suggests memorials to Guadalupanas, 908 North 2nd Street, Lamesa, TX 79331; or Catholic Daughters of the Americas, 10 West 71st Street, New York, NY 10023.
