Mary Ellen Kendrick Johnson, 92, of Robert Lee formerly of Big Spring, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Robert Lee Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 18, 2005 at the 14th and Main Church of Christ, Big Spring with Royce Clay and Ed McCorkle, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born on January 8, 1913, in Corrigan, Texas and married Royce L. Johnson on Januray 25, 1934 in Big Spring, Texas. Mrs. Johnson came to Big Spring in 1921 and graduated from Big Spring High School in 1931. She had worked at the Tuberculosis Center in Carlsbad, Texas from 1957 to 1967 and then moved to Big Spring and worked at Big Spring State Hospital until retiring on March 1, 1976. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and gardening.She was a member of the Carlsbad Church of Christ and a former member of 14th and Main Church of Christ, Big Spring.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Royce L. Johnson of Robert Lee; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Sue Johnson of Smithville, Bobby Joe and Sis Johnson of Denver City, and Robert and Connie Johnson of Water Valley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jessie Marie and Jerry Bannister of Water Valley and Beverly Ann and Charles Preddy of Ozona; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Kendrick of Big Spring. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Effie Kendrick and one brother, J. D. Kendrick. Pallbearers will be Mike Preddy, Charles Preddy, Sam Johnson, Elmer Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Jodi Weeks, Jerry Bannister and John Gustin.The family suggests memorials to the Carlsbad Church of Christ, Carlsbad, Texas 76934 or to Robert Lee Care Center, P.O. Box 1209, Robert Lee, Texas 76945 or to Vista Care of San Angelo, 940B Arroyo Dr., San Angelo, Texas 76903.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
