Obit:
J.W. "Bill" Smith, Jr. of De Kalb, Texas passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 at a Texarkana hospital. He was 85.
Bill was born September 21, 1925 in Big Springs, Texas to J.W., Sr. and Fannie Smith. He was the owner and operator of Save Mart Grocery Stores, and a Veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in WWII. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church in De Kalb, the De Kalb Masonic Lodge # 9 and the Chapman Ranch Hunting Club. He was retired from the De Kalb Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by a wife, Bobbie Ann Smith, on November 10, 1989; three sisters, Bonnie Reed, Alma Rose Kennedy and Syble Smith; three brothers, Loyd, Lonnie and Leonard Smith; and a grandson, John Beck Smith.
He is survived by his wife, of De Kalb, Texas; two sons and a daughter-in-law, a step daughter, four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Bates Family Funeral Home.

Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at First Baptist Church in De Kalb, Texas.
Interment will follow at Woodmen Cemetery.
