Pat Joe Abner McDaniel, 87, of the Thorndale area, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 in the Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Larry Griffith officiating. Burial followed in the Locklin Cemetery near San Gabriel.

He was born Oct. 24, 1918 near Thorndale to James Pinkston and Nancy Jane Phelps McDaniel.

He married Ellnora Fuessel on March 3, 1940.

Mr. McDaniel was a motor crane operator and retired carpenter. He was also a member of San Gabriel Baptist Church and attend school at San Gabriel.

He was a World War II veteran having served with a combat engineering battalion in the U.S. Army.

Mr. McDaniel loved playing a good harmonica most of his life and making the rounds at garage sales.

After the death of his wife, his favorite form of exercise was the Friday night dances at the SPJST Hall in Taylor. He enjoyed working on various craft projects, making items such as lawn chairs and whirligigs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellnora on Oct. 9, 1995; son, Glenn McDaniel in 1997; infant daughter, Joanne in 1954; parents; seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry McDaniel and wife Mary Jane of Thorndale, Ervin McDaniel and wife Carol of Rockdale and Keith McDaniel and wife Lou of Bryan; three daughters, Patricia Wiseman of Evant, Karene Willis of Webster and Jeanie Kelm and husband Ronnie of Thorndale; two brothers-in-law, Alvin Fuessel of Austin and Herman "Mike" Fuessel Jr. of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Casner McDaniel of Rockdale and Tillie Kirsch of Thorndale; 28 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to San Gabriel Baptist Church, 263 CR 421A, Thorndale, TX 76577 or to the charity of choice.
