BORGER - Thelma Ruth Chapman, 78, died Monday, July 22, 2002, in Boston.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Borger First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Terry officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Mrs. Chapman was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Tahoka. She moved to Borger shortly after receiving her bachelor of education degree from Texas Tech University. She retired from teaching in 1983 after many years of service to the Phillips and Borger school districts as an elementary school music teacher.

She served as choir director in Wesley Methodist Church for many years and most recently participated in the choirs of Frank Phillips College and First Methodist Church.

She continued her enjoyment of music after her retirement by teaching piano. She was a gracious person who brought joy, happiness and love to all whose lives she touched. She will be missed by her family and many friends in the Borger Community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Weldon "Pat" Chapman.

Survivors include a sister, Margaret Edwards of Pflugerville; three children, Kenneth Chapman, D.D.S., of Kampala, Uganda, John Chapman, Ph.D., of Boston and Cheryl Swafford of Amarillo; and five grandchildren, Jamie Swafford and Kevin Swafford, both of Amarillo, Christopher Chapman and Thomas Chapman, both of Boston, and Brianna Chapman of Kampala.

The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church Choir, 200 N. McGee St., Borger, TX 79007.
