A 26-year-old Borger man, Joe Kirk, of 103 Turner, was electrocuted Tuesday when his Southwestern Public Service line truck came into contact with a high voltage electric line.
Kirk and two other Southwestern Public Service Co. employees were reportedly working on an electric line about four miles north of the Sanford Dam in Hutchinson County at 1:30 p.m. when their truck apparently touched the line.
Bill Farris, district manager of SPS, said Kirk was a member of a crew which was based in Borger.
Kirk was rushed to North Plains Hospital, Farris said, but hospital attendants were unable to revive him. The truck driver and crew foreman who were working with Kirk administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene.
Farris said the company is investigating the incident.
Services for Mr. Kirk will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Riverview Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmy Gillmore, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Minton-Chatwell Funeral directors.
Kirk was born in Beaumont, Calif. He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Donna; two sons, Heath and Cory Kirk, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. Lydia Henley of Sanford; a sister, Jenny Umbarger of Sanford; and grandparents, Mrs. Ella Jennings and Ollie Kirk, both of Panhandle.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Cheatwood, Mike Kelley, Keith Reed, Rocky Gillmore, Leon McDonald and Hugh Gene McGinnis.
