Gilbert (Gib) Eugene Welch of Borger, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 2, 2017, surrounded by his surviving children and other family. He was born October 12, 1928, in Jacksboro, Texas; son of the late Arthur Lee Welch and Alda Chloner Butler Welch.

Gib served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant from 1946 to 1947, and then returned to Cactus, Texas where he started working for Phillips Petroleum. He continued working for Phillips Petroleum, with increasing levels of management responsibility, while living in Cactus, Dumas, and Borger, Texas until his retirement in 1983. During that time he also received an Associates Degree from Frank Phillips College.

Gib was a devoted and loving husband and father. He married Wanda Louise Oquin Welch on November 8, 1947; they were married for over 66 years until Wanda passed away in 2014. Together, they raised three children, the late Randall Kent Welch, Rhonda Kay Welch Grider, and Jason Brett Welch. He loved spending time with his family and friends playing and singing country & western music on his guitar, mandolin, and fiddle, as well as camping and fishing for trout in the mountains.

Gib has been a committed Southern Baptist for well over sixty years; for the past 43 years, he was a very active member and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church in Borger, Texas. He was always ready to discuss his Christian faith with others, and often provided caring advice and guidance to friends, colleagues, and family members. Following his retirement, he was a very active volunteer at Living Water Ministries in Borger, Texas; helping to provide food, clothing, school supplies, and additional assistance to those in need. Gib is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Kay Welch Grider (David) of Wake Forest, North Carolina, his son Jason Brett Welch (Kelly) of Amarillo, Texas, and his daughter-in-law, Debra Nordyke Welch of Austin, Texas. Gib will also be missed by his eight grandchildren, Amy, Emily, Jade, Joshua, Ian, Jennifer, Jeremy, Joanna and their spouses, as well as eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Larry Welch, Betty Hulit, and Sue Bolton.

Gib was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Louise OQuin Welch, his eldest child, Randall Kent Welch, his parents, Arthur Lee Welch and Alda Chloner Butler Welch, as well as six of his siblings: Bunk Welch, Furman Welch, Alta Wray, Joe Welch, Glenn Welch, and Connie Hardin.

A family graveside service for Gib Welch will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Westlawn Memorial Park, 8727 Highway 136, Fritch, Texas. Following this, a memorial service for Gib Welch will be held at 11:30 am on February 9, 2017 at the First Baptist Church Worship Center at 100 S. Hedgecoke Street, Borger, Texas. Reverend Andy Dietz will be officiating the service.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 8th, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Brown's Chapel of the Fountains.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Living Waters Ministries, 103 W. 4th Street, Borger, Texas 79007, in memory of Gib Welch. The family of Gib Welch also wishes to thank the amazing staff at Avendelle Assisted Living and the caring, thoughtful providers of palliative and hospice care in Wake Forest, North Carolina.

Services are entrusted to Brown Funeral Directors, Borger.

Wanda Louise Welch, 84, of Borger, passed away, Wednesday, June 4, 2014 in Borger.

Wanda Louise Welch was born April 9, 1930 in Stratford, Texas to Thomas Pierce and Telie (Shipman) Oquin. She married Gib Welch in 1947 in Clayton, New Mexico and was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Borger.

Wanda Louise Welch was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings and a son Randal Kent.

Survivors include her husband Gib Welch of Borger; son Jason Welch of Dallas, Texas; daughter Rhonda and husband David Grinder of Wake Forest, North Carolina; brother Norman and wife Ann Oquin of Amarillo, Texas; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 PM, Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Borger with Dr. Charles Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park.

Viewing will be at Brown Funeral Directors in Borger on Monday, June 9, 2014, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Memorial may be made to Living Waters, 103 West 4th Street, Borger, Texas 79007 or Alzheimer's Association.
