A shooting incident late Wednesday night claimed the life of a 15-year-old Phillips youth, Michael Don Williams, 10 S. Lemp.

Investigating officers said the youth died at the family home about 11:26 p.m. Wednesday of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Justice of the Peace G.H. Turpin, acting as coroner, pronounced the youth dead at the scene shortly after the incident. No ruling has been made in the death.

Officers said a .410 shotgun was found near the youth's body.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Williams. Williams is a member of the Phillips School Board.

Mike was born May 27, 1958 in Borger. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Phillips.

He was president of the freshman class at Phillips High School this year. He was a member of the student council, played football, basketball and golf and was considered by the faculty and his friends as a real leader. He won first place in the oratorical contest sponsored by the Optimist Club in March 1972.

Funeral services are pending with Minton Mortuary.

Survivors besides his parents are a brother, Steve of the home and a sister, Mrs. Nancy Floyd of Canyon.

Funeral services for Michael Don Williams, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Williams of 10 S. Lemp, Phillips, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the First Baptist Church of Phillips with the Rev. Guy White, pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Mortuary.

The youth was pronounced dead about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday after he suffered a chest wound from a .410 gauge shotgun at his home. Justice of the Peace G.H. Turpin ruled the death was accidental.

Survivors in addition to his parents are a brother, Steve of the home and a sister, Mrs. Nancy Floyd of Canyon.

Casketbearers will be Larry Williams, Terry Williams, Bill Barnes, Larry Childs, Jerry Childs, Elby Beal, Ronnie Williams, Jerry Kirby.
