BORGER - Ned Benson Fowler, 78, died Friday, July 20, 2007.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Riverview Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Gillmore officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger.

Ned was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Decatur, Ga., to Ned Benson and Audrey Mason Fowler. He served in the U.S. Navy for seven years in the Seabee's and two years in Special Forces in Guam. Ned was an avid baseball player, and when he threw a non-hitter knuckle ball it got him a draft offer from the San Diego Padres and was nicknamed Ned, the "Bullet" Fowler.

Ned was a longtime resident of Borger where he owned his own construction co., Fowler Construction, and was a member of Riverview Baptist Church. He married Barbara Taylor on July 27, 2002 in Borger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Josephine Zamesnik.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Greg Fowler and Ned Fowler Jr., both of Amarillo; a daughter, Monica Mendoza of Amarillo; a sister, Marcelle Bray of Georgia; a stepson, Charles Stubbs of Fort Worth; a stepdaughter, Nita Stubbs of Borger; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Hospice care of the Southwest, 1301 Coulter, Suite 404, Amarillo, TX 79106.
