Borger News Herald - May 22, 1977

Adam Garcia, 84, of 721 N. Harvey, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday in North Plains Hospital.

Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Catholic Church.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, in St. John's Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Neyer, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Garcia was born July 1, 1892 in Seja, NM, and had been a Borger resident since 1936. He was a retired auto body repairman.

He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the American Legion and the Spanish-American Club of Amarillo.

Survivors include his wife, Sofia; two sons, Pete Sr. of Borger and Adams Jr of Grants, NM; three daughters, Mrs. Dora McLane of Marion, Iowa, Mrs. Beatrice George of Houston, and Mrs. Theresa Vanzquez of Lawton, Okla.; 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Pete Garcia, Jr., Dan Garcia, Mike George, Padilla Esequiel, Ron Payne, Ralph Martinez, and Lem Shelton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Orlando Anaya, Amy Valenzuela, J.A. Bell, F.P. Smithey, Jeff Wilson, Slim Harrell, and Servando Salinas Sr., and Manuel Martinez.

Sofia Ortega Garcia, 96, died Friday, Dec. 16, 1994 in the Seguin Nursing Home.

Mass was recited today at 10:00 a.m. today at St. John's Catholic Church with Monsignor Norbert Kuehler, officiating.

Burial was in Highland Park Cemetery by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

A native of Pajarita, NM, she moved to Borger in 1926 and then to Sequin. She was a homemaker and member of St. John's Catholic Church.

She married Adam Garcia on July 24, 1920 in Tucumcari, NM. He preceded her in death in 1977.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Joe Garcia in 1960 and Pete Garcia, Sr., in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Adam Garcia, Jr., of San Antonio; three daughters, Dora McLane of Seguin; Beatrice George of Tayler; and Theresa Vasquez of San Antonio; a brother, Pete Ortega of Fritch; three sisters, Lola Smith of Tucumcari, N.M.; Abine King of Clinton, Okla.; and Nicki Tapia of Hamet, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church.
