*Obituary
A three-vehicle accident east of Wheeler Saturday morning is still under investigation. Lonnie Loyal Miller, Wheeler County Sheriff, was pronounced dead shortly after the 2:15 A.M. accident.

Miller, 56, was traveling east, enroute home, on Highway 152. A pickup driven by David Moore, 25, of Wheeler was traveling west. The two vehicles collided head-on 9 1/2 miles east of Wheeler. A second pickup driven by Dwayne Watson of Shamrock then struck Moore's pickup.

Three victims were taken to Parkview Hospital. Miller was pronounced dead after arrival at the hospital. David Moore was treated for a broken arm and lacerations; he was released from the local hospital later in the day. Teresa Watts, a passenger in the sheriff's car remains in the hospital for observation. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Seatbelts were not in use by any of the individuals involved in the accident.

The accident is still under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Services for Miller were held at the First Baptist Church in Wheeler Monday, September 19, 1988. Rev. Robert Helsley, pastor, officiate at the 11:00 A.M. service. Burial was in the Wheeler cemetery under the direction of Wright Funeral Home.

Lonnie was born January 10, 1932 in Wheeler and had lived most of his life in the Wheeler area. He served in law enforcement since 1958 and was a deputy sheriff for eight years. He was completing his first term as Wheeler County Sheriff.

Miller was a member of the First Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge and Texas Sheriff's Association.

Lonnie is survived by two sons, Terry Miller, Yukon, Okla., and Charlie Miller, Wheeler; one daughter, Lonna Gail McGaha, Mansfield; two sisters, Aleene Anderson, Fritch and Katy Summers, Elk City, Okla., and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Darville Atherton, Dennis Hilburn, Bill Mason, Domer Miller, Dudley Miller and Denzel Reed. Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Texas Sheriff's Association.
