Otho J. Beene Called by Death Late Wednesday
Otho J. Beene, 48, one of Hereford's leading citizens for many years, died at nine o'clock Wednesday night, at the Deaf Smith County Hospital after a year's illness. He had been in the hospital for about two weeks. His death was not unexpected, but its announcement caused deep sorrow and regret from a large circle of relatives and friends all over the Panhandle territory.
Mr. Beene leaves five motherless children, his wife, who was Ruth Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jno. L. Wilson, having died in 1926. The children are Weldon, Otho J., Jr., Douglas, Billie and Bruce. In addition, he is survived by his mother and two sisters. Miss Myrtle and his mother have lived with him since the death of his wife, and Mrs. Carroll Barnett of Plainview. Mrs. Barnett, who was Miss Ona Beene, made her home with him prior to her marriage.
Mr. Beene was born October 15, 1885, and lived at Coryell, Texas, before he came to Hereford in 1909. He formed a partnership with Walter Bennett, and since has had various partners in his barber shop business. For the past year or more his partner has been Charlie Whitehead, the firm being known as Beene & Whitehead. He also farmed in this county for a number of years.
Funeral arrangement had not been completed Thursday before The Brand went to press, but will probably be held some time Friday.
