D. Beene's Rites Are Held Here
Funeral services for Decimae Beene, 69, of Friona, were held Tuesday, August 11 at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon O'Kelly, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Dimmitt, and Rev. David Bugg, pastor, officiating.
Burial was in West Park Cemetery, Hereford, under the direction of Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home.
Born October 27, 1917 in Dimmitt, she married O.J. Beene September 18, 1943 in Hereford. They moved to Friona in 1946 from Hereford. Mrs. Beene was the first bilingual teacher in the Friona School District. She retired from teaching in 1984, and was named Friona Teacher of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce, in 1963. Mrs. Beene was a member of the First Baptist Church, and a former member of TSTA Board.
She died Sunday, August 9, in Parmer County Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.J. Beene, on June 4, 1969.
Survivors include two sons, Jay Beene of Friona and Ramey Beene of Corpus Christi; and one grandson, Brent Beene of Friona.
Pallbearers were Doug Stephenson, Bruce Shaffer, J.B. Noland, Donald Wright, Dale Fisher and Abe Lane.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Panhandle Chapter of the Texas Head Injury Foundation, c/o Dorothy Doan, Rt. 2, Box 23-A, Tulia, Texas, 79088.
