Our beloved Dr. Benjamin Columbus Young, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 30, 2009. Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers will host a gathering of friends and family this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel to celebrate his 81 years of life. Burial will take place in the City of Lubbock Cemetery.

Ben was born on August 25, 1928 to Benjamin Young, Sr. and Vera Neil Dearing in Olney, Texas. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart, and then an Honorable Discharge. Following the war, he earned a BA degree from Texas Technological College on May 28, 1956. He earned a medical degree on June 2, 1961 from Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery. Ben worked as a Physician for USPHS/USCG.

On September 26, 1951, he married Mary Mills in Lubbock, Texas. Benjamin and Mary lived in Lubbock. Ben was a life time member of the Alpha Pi Omega Fraternity, the American Osteopath Association and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Red Oak Oklahoma Lodge. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He was a fan of most all spectator sports.

Survivors include his loving spouse of 57 years, Mary; daughter, Linda Louise MacKinsey and spouse Bob of Sanford, Fla.; sons, Bob Lee Young and wife Barbara of Baxter, Tenn., Ben C. Young III and wife Rebecca of Baytown, Texas, Troy L. Young of Lebanon, Mo., Tom C. Young of Ft. Worth and Paul J. Young of Lubbock; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Retha Rodgers of Las Vegas, Nev. and Pauline J. Dearing and husband Ivory of Abilene; and brother, John Young and wife Dolores of Jacksonville, Texas.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, J. W. Young
