Vergie Nell Brown
August 29, 1934 - August 20, 2014

Vergie Nell (Franks) Brown, 79, much beloved wife, mother, nannie, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend went to be with her trusted Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 20, 2014 in The Woodlands, TX. Her Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Fairlanes Baptist Church on Saturday, August 23rd at 2:00 pm with Paul Burwash, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Vergie was a faithful charter member of Fairlanes Baptist Church and Faith Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Borger Chapter #811 Order of the Eastern Star. Vergie loved to crochet, cook, read, solve crossword puzzles, play dominoes, and card games. Vergie didn’t just “talk the talk,” she “walked the walk.” She lived what she believed and what she taught her children. Everyone has gifts that are bestowed on them by God; gifts He expects us to use to His glory. Vergie’s gift was generosity. She gave of herself freely to her family, her friends, and to anyone in need. She seemed to see the needs of others as if she had a glimpse through God’s own eyes. Never wanting for herself, always putting others first. Willing to give her money, her possessions, but most precious, she gave of herself to others. Her generosity came naturally; it was not for show or attention, but the natural flow of God’s love through her to others.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?” The King will reply ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25: 35-40

Vergie was born August 29, 1934 in Egypt, Oklahoma to T.S. & Dorothy Franks, and moved to Borger in 1948. Vergie was a 1953 graduate of Borger High School. She started working as an elevator operator and banquet hostess in 1952 at the Borger Hotel where she advanced to bookkeeper/auditor. She later worked for Drs. Ingham, Hays and Hull in the office of The Physicians & Surgeons Clinic. Vergie also did bookkeeping at J.C. Penney and Petro Search.

Vergie married Olan (O.R.) Brown, July 29, 1955. They were married 57 years and he preceded her in death in January of last year. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Theron S. Franks Sr. and Dorothy Mae Franks and her sister, Georgia Mae Chisum.

She is survived by a brother, Theron S. Franks Jr. and his wife, Carol of Fritch, a sister, Glenda Lund and her husband Bill of Arlington, Texas, her two daughters, Carolyn Weston and her husband Dick of Azle, Texas and Kim Allison and her husband James of The Woodlands, Texas, her son David Brown and his wife Amy of Amarillo, her six grandchildren, Josh Weston, Cayce Weston Feemster, Klein Allison, Andrew Lucas Allison, Claire Allison, and Madalynn Brown, her great granddaughter Weslee Feemster and great grandsons John Weston Feemster, Samuel Feemster, and Hunter Weston.
