David Glenn Lewis, 39, of Amarillo, died Feb. 1, 1993, in Yakima, Wash.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Westlawn Memorial Park. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Fairlanes Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad Chaddick, pastor, and Gene Khurt, eulogist. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mr. Lewis, son of Hershel and Esther Lewis of Borger, was born Dec. 11, 1953, in Borger. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1972, and married Karen Garrett, of Tulia on July 25, 1981.
He graduated magna cum laude from Texas Tech University in 1975, receiving a degree in political science. He was a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and was in Who's Who in American Colleges Universities. He graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1979 with a doctor of jurisprudence. He was a practicing attorney in Amarillo. He had also been an assistant Wheeler County attorney, a Sherman County attorney, a Moore County court-at-law judge, and was an instructor for Amarillo College. He was a member of the State Bar of Texas and the American Bar Association. He was a member of CASA 69 Inc. and Moore County Child Protective Services Board, and was awarded Outstanding Young Men of America, 1982.
He was an active member of Dumas Chamber of Commerce, Dumas Noon Lions Club, Dumas Discovery Center Board Member, former president of the Dumas and Moore County United Way, chairman of Safe Place Inc., member of the First Baptist Church in Dumas, teaching the Adult IV Sunday school class, and was active in the sanctuary choir and an adult ensemble. He was organizer and advisor of the Moore County Teen Court, was on the board of directors for the Dumas Community Education Advisory Council, and was a district chairman of Golden Spread Council of the Boy Scouts of America from 1986 to 1993.
We know that you are in heaven and smiling at us as we have tried to make our way through life without you. Your love and devotion have been missed so very much. You touched so many lives while you were here; how sad that many of your dreams were left unfulfilled. We know that God is using you for his almighty work.
Survivors include a daughter, Lauren Lewis of College Station; his former wife, Karen Garrett of Amarillo; his parents of Borger; two brothers, Larry Don Lewis and wife, Gail, of Borger and John Garrett and wife, Ann, of Leonard; a sister-in-law, Julie Fairchild of Dallas; his nephews, Clay Lewis and wife, Lisa, of San Bernardino, Calif., and Matt Lewis of Lubbock; and his nieces, April and Rachel Fairchild of Dallas.
The family suggests memorials be to Safe Place Inc., in care of Shirley Spence, director, 306 W. Seventh St., Dumas, TX 79029; or First Baptist Church, 420 S. Bliss St., Dumas, TX 79029.
