BORGER - Borger has recorded its first death by fire in five years.

Mrs. Helen Lillie McDonald, 46, died Wednesday morning in North Plains Hospital with burns suffered Tuesday. Her clothing caught fire at the Magic Plains Nursing Home where she was a patient.

Physicians said Mrs. McDonald died of burns that covered her body from the waist up. Lack of resistance due to a progressive neurological disease made the victim unable to respond to treatment for shock.

Mrs. McDonald had been a patient at the nursing home since April 11, 1969, and had been under medical treatment for two years.

Mrs. McDonald's roommate discovered the fire and firemen were called at 4:08 p.m. A blanket from the bed was wrapped around Mrs. McDonald's body to extinguish the flames. Origin of the fire has not been determined but fire department officials continued investigation today.

Mrs. McDonald had resided in Borger for 19 years. She was born in Nebraska.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Walter G. White officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Simpson Funeral Home.

Survivors include two sons, Paul McDonald of Plemons and Warren Bishop of 1903-B S. Woodland in Amarillo; two daughters, Mrs. C.W. Parker of El Campo and Mrs. David Carr of 123 Turner in Borger; three brothers, Lee and Jack Thompson of Atoka, Okla., and Floyd Thompson of Stringtown, Okla.; three sisters, Mrs. Doris Jones and Mrs. Shelly Westbrook, both of Atoka, and Mrs. Pauline Sanders of El Campo; and three grandchildren.
