Borger News Herald - September 8, 1963

Funeral services for Borger pioneer civic leader L.A. Thompson will be conducted Monday afternoon. The 37-year-resident died Friday at 9:30 p.m. in North Plains Hospital.

Private services for the family only will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Minton Memorial Chapel with Christian Science reader Roswell Raber conducting the rites. The body will lie in state at Minton Mortuary until one hour prior to funeral time.

Thompson moved to Borger in 1926. He operated the Oil City News Stand for many years and at the time of death was president of Gay-Thompson Oil and Gas Production Company.

He served on the Borger City Commission during the 1930s and was a charter director of Panhandle State Bank, mother bank of Panhandle Bank and Trust Company. Thompson was the bank's first depositor on opening day Jan. 21, 1936.

Thompson was a member of Masonic Lodge 738 of Ranger, Texas.

Survivors include the widow, Alga, of the home, 600 E. Third; two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Chapman of Amarillo and Mrs. Aldine Marshall of Arcata, Calif.; a son, Jack L. Thompson of Borger; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. W.B. Street of Wichita, Kan., Mrs. J.S. Condit of Ponca City, Okla., Mrs. Mary McGilbary of Cushing, Okla., Mrs. Lena Sierman of Kaw City, Okla.; two brothers, H.A. of Longmont, Colo., and Frank L. of Abbeville, La.

Members of Isom Lodge 1242, AF & AM will conduct interment rites in Highland Park Cemetery. Masons are requested to meet at the lodge hall at 1 p.m. Monday.

Borger News Herald - March 27, 1978

Mrs. Alga Ann Thompson, 87, of 600 East Third, died today at the home of her daughter in Amarillo.

Mrs. Thompson had been a resident of Borger since 1927 and was a member of the Royal Neighbors. She was born in Elgin, Kan., in 1890.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, L.A., who died in 1963.

Services are pending with Minton Mortuary.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Chapman of Amarillo, and Mrs. Aldine Marshall of Phillips; one son, Jack L. of Borger; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
