When Thomas Jefferson Ammons was born on August 9, 1849, his father, David, was 24 and his mother, Nancy, was 21. He married Rachel Elizabeth Davis on August 12, 1869, in Cherokee, North Carolina. They had seven children in 20 years. He died on December 8, 1926, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 77, and was buried in Fargo, Texas.
