Peggy Jo Anderson, 84, of Canyon, fomerly of Borger, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, in Amarillo.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Brooks Funeral Directors in Canyon. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Westlawn Memorial Park between Borger and Fritch, about six miles west of Borger on Highway 136, with the Rev. John Elser, interim pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.

Peggy was born June 20, 1928, in Big Spring. She grew up in Otis Chalk and other small towns in Howard County with her father, R.P. Hargrove; her mother, Minnie Lee, and a sister, Adelaide. Peggy attended school in Otis Chalk until her father was transferred to Phillips, completing her last year of high school at Phillips High.

After graduation, Peggy attended one year of business college in Lubbock and soon after was hired at Phillips 66 Bunavista Refinery (Copoly), where she met her husband-to-be, Guinn "Red" or "Andy" W. Anderson. He preceded her in death in 1967. Peggy and Andy were married in 1947 in Borger. They started their married life in Bunavista, and Peggy bore two sons, Larry and Gary. Their family moved to Borger In 1958, when the Phillips 66 apartments, in which they lived, were removed.

Peggy took care of a number of children for working parents for quite a few years, until she was unable to do so. She loved to play games, including bridge, pinochle and 42, and was very active at the Senior Citizens Center in Borger, where she organized and played various games. Because of health issues in May 2009, Peggy moved to Conner House — an assisted living facility in Canyon, near her younger son, Gary.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson, Elisha Colburn.

Peggy is survived by a sister, Adelaide Cook of Sterling, Colo.; two sons, Gary of Canyon and Larry of Farmington, N.M.; three grandchildren, Deanna Colburn Maurer, J. Reid Anderson of Farmington and Elissa Anderson of Amarillo; two great-grandchildren, Hays Anderson and Deagan Colburn, both of Farmington;
