MORSE - Kirby Christopher Johnson, 20, died Friday, June 6, 2003, in Dallas.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Gruver High School football stadium with the Rev. Walter Greaser, the Rev. Billy Snider and the Rev. David Nuckles officiating. Burial will be in Lieb Cemetery, near Pringle, by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Okla.
Mr. Johnson was born June 10, 1982, to Janice Kelly and Kenton Johnson, in Independence, Mo. Kirby attended Pringle-Morse and later Gruver High School. He graduated from Gruver with the class of 2001. He was a member of the National Champion 4-H Livestock Judging Team. At GHS, he was active in band, basketball and football.
Kirby was honored as 2001 Greyhound co-captain, 1st team all-district defensive team and received the John Phillip Sousa Band Award. He had been attending Southwestern Assembly of God University in Waxahachie, where he was a defensive starter for the S.A.G.U. Lions. Kirby was a member of First Assembly of God in Spearman.
The most important things to Kirby were living for Jesus, family, being with Amberlie and football.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Edgar O Kelly in 2001.
Survivors include his mother, Janice McCloy and husband, Allen, of Morse; his father, Kenton Johnson of Samnorwood; a brother, Jared Johnson of Lubbock; his grandparents, Alice Kelly of Briscoe, Annie and Bryce Johnson of Scranton, N.D., and Nan McCloy of Morse; his aunts and uncles, Elizabeth and Lewis Meers and daughter, Ginger, of Briscoe, Diann and Glenn Rose and daughters, Kelly and Savannah of Canyon, Linda and Steve Thomas and daughter, Bethany, of Dalhart, Keith Johnson and children, Brenton and Brooke of Swartz Creek, Mich., Scott and Brenda George, Cory and Angie of Silver Lake, Wis., Bob and Leanne Allen and children, Jessica, Justin and Melena Bauman of Brookline, Mo.; a stepsister, Kelly West and husband, Murry, of Tatum, N.M.; a stepbrother, Marty McCloy and wife, Molly, and children, KD and Maddie of Gruver; the love of his life, Amberlie Mash of Ennis, and her family, Reba and Toby Mash, Ryan, Natalie and Grant Price, and Toby Mash II.
The family suggests memorials be to GHS Weight Room or SAGU Weight Room Fund, in care of the funeral directors, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.
The body will be available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation and viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at First Assembly of God in Spearman.
